Find Urban Workshop at Meetingpoint
A new, exciting service Urban Workshop joins the older services of Meetingpoint in Lasipalatsi. Urban Workshop is a pilot project created through participatory budgeting of The Central Library, and it is a service actively planned by the city residents. The maker space has also been developed in a lead user workshop with the city residents.
New tools from 3D printers to vinyl cutters
Urban Workshop is a maker space where anyone can realize their ideas, both small and big. Have you thought of an amazing object that does not yet exist? Or a small but significant improvement to an utensil? Try realizing the missing link with a 3D printer or 3D cutter! How about making a sticker or a fabric print you have designed yourself? The answer to your needs is the vinyl cutter. With the vinyl cutter you can pimp up your bike or print your own design on your t-shirt.
New customers have found their way into the Urban Workshop, and the regular customers use the new services of the workshop. Since the Urban Workshop is not a separate service, and it was established alongside the existing services inside the Lasipalatsi, all the different names have caused some confusion among the customers as well as the staff. To dispel the confusion the name Meetingpoint@lasipalatsi has been changed into Urban Workshop.
The Urban Workshop is part of the Central Library’s pilot projects to promote activities the citizens plan themselves. The Workshop offers i.a. 3D printers, a vinyl cutter for making stickers and textile prints, graphics workstation, and as newest addition a sewing machine and an overlocker. The services are free, apart from the charge of the material costs of 3D printing and the vinyl cutter. 3D prints cost 40 cents each, and the sticker or print material for the vinyl cutter costs 1 € / 10 cm. Special services such as 3D printing is reserved by phoning 09 31085900. The staff will help with operating the machines if needed. Please inform what kind of assistance you require when you make the reservation. You are welcome to explore and experiment! At the graphics station you can turn your ideas into pictures, and if the inspiration strikes, why not make a comic of your own and donate a copy to the library collection.
