Urban Workshop will move to Library 10
Due to Lasipalatsi's upcoming renovation the Urban Workshop will move to Library 10. Urban Workshop opens again in Library 10's premises in September.
Lasipalatsi building will be renovated for the Amos Anderson Art Museum. The new museum opens in Lasipalatsi during early 2018.
Because of the renovation that is set to start in the coming autumn, the library does not continue renting the Urban Workshop premises in Lasipalatsi. The service will be moved to Library 10. In the future both Library 10 and the Urban Workshop will be part of the new Central Library.
The services will stay the same
In Library 10 the Urban Workshop will be situated on the left side of the library space. Customers will find in Library 10 all the Urban Workshop services. Only the laptop doctor service will be discontinued.
– Luckily there are similar services available in many other libraries too – especially outside the city centre. The makerspace services that the Urban Workshop provides are so much in demand that we have to concentrate on them now, says Lotta Muurinen, who works as a project planner in Urban Workshop.
Also Enter ry, a voluntary based ICT association for the senior citizens, will offer their peer tuition for IT problems twice a week in Library 10 premises.
Getting ready for the Central Library
One big benefit for the customers will be longer opening hours for the Urban Workshop services.
– At first we will be open from ten to eight on weekdays. And although during September we cannot yet guarantee help with the equipment on weekends, we will broaden the opening times gradually as the staff in Library 10 gets more familiar with the Urban Workshop services.
Moving to Library 10 also enables the library to get ready for the Central Library.
– Now we will see how the maker space services work inside the library premises, says Lotta Muurinen.
– In Urban Workshop we have some customers who don’t really use other library services. Now they will be subjected to all the books, e-magazines and other tempting things the library offers. At the same time we hope that the Urban Workshop will bring new experiences to those who have previously been only keen on the book and record collections of Library 10.
