The Metropolitan area Helmet libraries are taking a new library card into use. In the beginning, the Helsinki libraries distribute the new cards, and later on, so do the other Metropolitan area libraries. The old library cards will function in the future as well.

Are you up to the challenge? Reading is fun but it also equips you with knowledge and understanding. The 2017 Helmet Reading Challenge for Young Readers is a shorter version of the original Helmet Reading Challenge, ready for you to modify (and enjoy!) as you wish.

Helsinki City Library held an open competition in October 2016 on the name of the Central Library under construction in the Töölönlahti area of Helsinki. The competition received 2,600 proposals, and 1,600 of them were different names. The winning proposal selected by the jury is “Oodi”.

The new library being built in Töölönlahti has so far only held the temporary name Central Library. We are now seeking a fitting colloquial name for this flagship library. Make a suggestion and win a day full of experiences!

You have an opportunity to participate in sheet music selection 30th August - 11th September, 2016. You can choose from the same sheet music selection list from which the staff chooses sheet music.

Iso Omena library opened its doors at Iso Omena Shopping Centre in 2001. From August 2016 the library will move to the Service Centre, changing the operating concept to something new.

Late return fees will be accepted again in all the Helmet Libraries starting on Wednesday 15 June. The online payment service, however, will remain unavailable until further notice.

There have been problems in the HelMet library system with late return fees incurred during the online renewal of loans. Due to this, we will stop accepting late return fees from 1 June until further notice.
