One of the multitude - Sound installation by Heikki Lindgren
People and media tend to talk about the refugee crisis describing the refugees as a wave, stream or an anonymous faceless mass.
People in receiving countries may have many doubts, fears and prejudices. We concentrate easily on the things that make us different.
But what do we all have in common?
Could it be that if you had a chance to listen to one individuals story, just a monologue answering the questions like:
How was your childhood?
What dreams did you have?
What are the happiest moments in your life?
What are your dreams for the future?
You might get surprised about how similar the things we dream of are, and how independent of our cultural backgrounds they are.
The sound installation "One of the multitude" is created from an interview with Waad, a Syrian woman recorded at a refugee reception center in Helsinki and is live mixed with minimal soundscape.
The monologue will play every fifteen minutes starting at 18:00 for one hour.
