Changes to picking up reservations and the text message service in Helsinki

Picking up reserved books and other material from libraries in Helsinki changes 15th May 2019 due to the new Helsinki City Library Intelligent Material Management System. In the future, you will find your reservations in the library based on a shelf number. The shelf number is provided on the reservation notification you received via e-mail. You can also ask the staff for the shelf number. In the future you will also be able to check the number yourself using borrowing machines. The function will be available on the machines once they have been updated.

The current model where materials have last pick-up dates will be discontinued. Material will no longer be alphabetised onto shelves in Helsinki. One shelf will not, however, have many volumes of the same reservation, which means that you will easily be able to find your reservation on the numbered shelf.

The change is brought on by the new Helsinki City Library Intelligent Material Management System.

Text message service for reservations temporarily out of use in Helsinki

The text message notification service for reservations will also be updated. If you have reserved a book or other material from the library, and the pick-up location is one of the libraries in Helsinki, you will only receive an e-mail notification of the arrival of your reservation starting from 2 May 2019. The text message service for due date notifications will continue unless you specifically cancel the service.

A new, free-of-charge text message service will be introduced in Helsinki in 2020.

The e-mail server for Helsinki is being replaced, which is why the e-mail notifications for reservations picked up in Helsinki will be sent from a new address: no_reply@lib.hel.fi and 22 May onwards from varausilmoitukset@lib.hel.fi.

In the transition phase, customers may receive e-mail messages from both the old and the new system, but the double notifications will be stopped shortly after the introduction of the new system.

If you are picking up your reservation in Espoo, Vantaa or Kauniainen, the notification will be sent to you either via e-mail or as a text message as before, depending on your preference.

If you have selected to receive your reservation notification in paper form, it will be sent to you as before.

Update 15.11.2019: new tex message service in Helsinki will be introduced in 2020.
