Kauniainen has a long history of being home to artists and authors alike. In the 1920s and 1930s, especially, Kauniainen was popular among artists. That period of time was also a golden age for Finnish Swede literature and so-called Finnish Swede modernists. Many modernists lived in Kauniainen, some momentarily and some for a longer period of time.
The library’s extensive Grani collection features both fictional and non-fictional literature from authors who have lived in Kauniainen. The collection also contains materials that are, in one way or another, connected to Kauniainen. All materials can be borrowed.
Some of the Kauniainen-based authors are presented in the library's
author database (in Finnish and Swedish).
