Makerspace in Lumo Library

Lumo library’s makerspace is situated on the second floor. At the makerspace, customers can use and test the devices. The purpose of the workshop is that customers learn by testing. Use of the workshop devices is free of charge, but a valid library card is required. The workshop is meant for over-10-year-olds, but even younger children can come, if they are accompanied by an older person.

Our workshop has one 3D printer, two sewing machines, and a media workstation. An iron and an ironing board are also available.

Workshop instructions:

When you use the devices for the first time, you must reserve an instruction time by phone or email. We arrange instructions on Wednesdays at 15:00-17:00 (sewing machines and overlocker) as well as at 17:30-19:30 (3D printer).

The instruction events last for one hour and they are meant for two persons.

Workshop devices to be reserved:

3D printer: one Ultimaker 3 printer. You can use the 3D printer to print small objects. The printer uses PLA plastic that is biodegradable plastic fiber made of renewable materials. You can also use water-soluble PVA material in Ultimaker 3.

Sewing machines: Two Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 sewing machines

Overlocker: One Bernina L450 overlocker

Media workstation: Lumo library workshop's media workstation is a computer with Windows 10 operating system, Adobe Creative Cloud software package, as well as Wacom's 16-inch pen display. The media workstation is meant for drawing, image processing, lay-out, animation, video editing and other creative digital work. The users have access to the City of Vantaa’s free-of-charge Wi-Fi. Use your library card to borrow the pen for the display at the customer service desk.
