Rikhardinkatu Library

In the heart of the city since 1882

In the summer of 1882 the Helsinki Folk Library moved into its new building. The building was designed by Theodor Höijer, and it was the first building in the Nordic countries specifically designed as a public library. The library building opened for public 1st of September albeit without any greater festivities.
