Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in your library: Bohemian Fiddler
You can hear chamber music in libraries in Helsinki, when the ”Kaupunginorkesteri kirjastossasi” (The Orchestra in your library) tour, organised jointly by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and Helsinki City Library, starts on 1 November.
Kari Olamaa and Teija Kivinen, violin
Hajnalka Standi-Pulakka, viola
Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904): Sections from Four Miniatures, Op. 75a (1887)
Cavatina (moderato) / Capriccio (Poco allegro) / Romance (Allegro)
Bohuslav Martinů (1890–1959): Serenade No. 2 H.216 (1932)
The title of the concert was inspired by a painting of the same name from 1864 by Finnish artist Ida Silfverberg (1834–1899). As a chamber music ensemble, a trio consisting of two violins and a viola is rare. Nevertheless, if we turn our gaze to the Bohemian region, we find a few delicious pieces for this ensemble. Perhaps the most famous of these is Antonín Dvořák's Terzetto. We offer listeners a Czech musical moment with works by composers from two different periods.
