Gallery Kajava - Free gallery space for your art?
Helsinki City Library has many spaces for art shows but none is better than the one at Vallila Library. The space has hosted hundreds of shows since it’s inauguration in 1991. In 2008 the space was dubbed Gallery Kajava. Our guiding idea is to offer diverse art experiences for our customers and a free gallery space for anyone interested in showing their works. The gallery is available for established artists, students, art societies and art enthusiasts alike. We do not and will not charge rent or collect fees for sales.
Gallery Kajava is a 45 square meter space with two main gallery walls (8,5 m and 5 m). Both these walls are equipped with a hanging system for ease of use. Additionally we have two moveable glass cases (w:85 cm, d:58 cm, h: 28 cm) and plenty of surfaces for sculptures or other art pieces. We also offer artists a measure of support with marketing, graphics, tools and short term storage.
Search for new exhibitions is ongoing. You can apply by sending us an application either in physical format or to the gallery manager’s e-mail. Applications sent by August 31st each year will take part in next year’s selection. An application should contain a preliminary description of the intended show, images of the works and artist’s CV. After each years deadline a committee consisting of the chief librarian, gallery manager and a career artist convene and decide next years winning applications. Every applicant will be informed of the result and physical applications can be retrieved from the library during the next two years.
Any questions regarding the gallery, the application process or any other matter can be directed to the gallery manager by e-mail or by phone. You can also visit us during opening hours.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
