Henna Laininen: The Human Story. Video art.
Henna Laininen's video art installation The Human Story is on display in Rikhardinkatu library 5.1.-29.1.2016. The installation is open to public Tue-Fri 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sat-Sun 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Human Story is a video installation where experts from different fields tell their own versions of the story of the human race. How is the story seen from the perspective of evolutionary biology, theology or astronomy? How were humans born? Is there a purpose to human existence? What will happen to humans in the future?
Visual artist Henna Laininen interviewed each expert around a fire in an Iron Age hut on a dark winter evening. She edited the interviews into a polyphonic story where different worldviews live side by side.
Storytellers in the installation are: Ilkka Hanski (ecologist), Kaisa Kariranta (theologian), Dalva Lamminmäki (folklorist), Tuulikki Pietilä (anthropologist), Antti Salminen (philosopher), Seita Vuorela (author), Miikka Väisälä (astronomer), Hamed Shafae (Master of Social Science, member of the Finnish Human Rights Delegation).
Henna Laininen is a community and media artist dealing with ecological questions. She creates tools to help the community better understand it's past, present and future. She is currently living in Helsinki.
