Extinction Talk (in English)
Sukupuuttopuhe on inspiroinut jo tuhansia ympäri maailmaa aktivoitumaan ilmastotoimintaan. Tule kuulemaan puhe, jota et unohda! Tilaisuus on englanninkielinen.
Our planet is facing an existential, ecological crisis. According to research, it is possible that we have already entered an era of unpredictable, irreversible climate disaster. Everything we love is at risk.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) met for the first time in 1990 - but since then, global annual greenhouse gas emissions have risen by a further 65%. The climate continues to heat up. We are already seeing signs of a climate disaster: deadly forest fires, devastating hurricanes, unprecedented heat waves and extreme droughts.
Recent IPCC and IPBES reports show that we are on the road to disaster, with scientific publications now openly speaking about climate change as a "threat to our continued existence".
If it's possible to reverse course, we must act now. In this talk, we provide an assessment of the situation at hand, and a possible route for action that draws on research on past popular movements.
Thousands of people around the world have been inspired to become involved in climate action - including in Finland. This is your invitation to join us and get active. Participation is free, and requires no prior information or commitment. Your only risk is empowerment!
The talk will be held at room Ture, Rikhardinkadun Kirjasto, Rikhardinkatu 3, 00130. The space is accessible. This event is organised in cooperation with Rikhardinkadun Kirjasto.
