Heading For Extinction (and what to do about it)
Tervetuloa kuuntelemaan avointa yleisöluentoa ilmastonmuutoksesta ja sen vaikutuksista maapalloomme. Tapahtuma on englanninkielinen ja sen järjestää Extinction Rebellion Finland.
Thousands of people around the world have been inspired to become involved in climate action - including in Finland. This is your invitation to join us and get active. Participation is free, and requires no prior information or commitment. Your only risk is empowerment!
The talk will be held in English at Maijansali, in Helsinki's Central Library (Oodi). Everyone is welcome and the space is accessible.
Our planet is facing an existential, ecological crisis. According to research, it is possible that we have already entered an era of unpredictable, irreversible climate disaster. Everything we love is at risk.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) met for the first time in 1990 - but since then, global annual greenhouse gas emissions have risen by a further 65%. The climate continues to heat up. We are already seeing signs of a climate disaster: deadly forest fires, devastating hurricanes, unprecedented heat waves and extreme droughts.
The newest IPCC and IPBES reports show that we are on the road to disaster, with scientific publications now openly speaking about climate change as a "threat to our continued existence".
If it's possible to reverse course, we must act now. In this talk, we provide an assessment of the situation at hand, and a possible route for action that draws on research on past popular movements.
This event is organised by Extinction Rebellion Finland.
